The Equine LAWS regarding loose horse that got hit on public road?

Feb 7th, 2012

Question by bo_legged_gal: The Equine LAWS regarding loose horse that got hit on public road?
WA STATE – When a person hits a loose horse in the early foggy & dark morning on a public road, who is liable?

Best answer:

Answer by RunLolaRun
Not sure about Washington state but I know here in Virginia it is the horse owners responsibility to keep the horse on their property.

Have a friend that hit a horse like that( he’s now a quadriplegic) and the horse owners were liable for the accident.

Never heard of it.

Hair products don’t help with fine receding hair.

Google: Glossary of Hair Loss Terms. There are 179 entries in this glossary. Stress is just one of the 179 listed.
Again, a simple rule of thumb: Look for the American Hair Loss Association seal when considering purchasing any product or service to treat your hair loss.

Q&A: What type of horse breeds are their with a successful equine registry?

Feb 4th, 2012

Question by : What type of horse breeds are their with a successful equine registry?
What is the main show registry for horses. Otherwise what is the AKC for horses if you understand what AKC is. AKC is the dog showing registry that everyone shows at. Well, not everyone but a huge amount of people. I want to look at registered horse breeds for the correct registry. Any help is well appreciated!

Best answer:

Answer by LopeSlow
That depends on what you’re looking for.

Each breed has its own registry–AQHA for Quarter Horses, AHA for Arabians, ApHC for Appaloosas, etc. Those organizations put on “breed shows,” which are recognized shows for that particular breed. Each organization has a world or national level show for the best of the breed. If you’re looking for the best horse in a particular breed, or even a particular class within the breed (like the best Quarter Horse in Western Pleasure, or the best Arabian in Park) then you’d want to look at the point standings from the breed organization, or the placings from the highest level of showing (nationals, worlds, etc.)–though just like in dogs, that’s a few people’s opinion at one show on one day, and it could change from day to day.

If you’re more interested in the best horse (regardless of breed) in a chosen discipline, look for the organization of that discipline. For instance, you’d look to USDF to find the winning-est dressage horse, or to NBHA to find the best barrel racer. USEF is the governing organization of a lot of disciplines, but you won’t find everything there. The best Western Pleasure horse in the world isn’t going to be listed there. It really depends on what it is you’re looking for, because there are so many different facets of showing and competing.

Equine Colic And Your Horse

Feb 2nd, 2012

Article by Owen Jones

If you have or have had a horse, you will almost certainly have heard of equine colic. However, when you attempt to find out what equine colic is, you run up against a brick wall. This is because the term is an old one, coming from the days when surgery and the understanding of how bodies work was in its infancy. The term ‘equine’ obviously refers to ‘horses’ – from the Latin, but ‘colic’?

Well, ‘colic’ refers to any (spasmodic) pain originating in the stomach, intestines or bowels, but what colic does not reference is a specific disease. Therefore, if you say: ‘My horse is suffering from colic’, you are saying that your horse has bodily pains, but you do not know what is causing them or you are not saying, if you do know.

In other words colic refers to indications not an actual illness. You will usually have to call in a vet if you would like to discover the cause of the pain. Sometimes, these abdominal pains pass on their own like wind, but other times it can be indicative of a difficulty, particularly if the colic lasts over an hour or so.

If the pain lasts for over a few hours, you have to take the decision whether to call in the vet or not. This is never cheap as all animal-lovers know and if surgery is necessary then costs will go through the roof.

The decision is a difficult one and depends largely on the value of the animal to you. Numerous horses die of undefined ‘colic’ because the owner will not or cannot pay thousands of dollars for a vets assistance.

Familiarity will help the horse owner to judge whether the cause of the colic will pass or whether surgery is necessary and a good vet will give you an honest opinion for the price of a call-out charge, which will normally be around $ 100..

It is hard for the young or novice owner of a horse to know if their animal has a problem, but if an animal, including a human, is off its food, you can be fairly certain that something is not right.

It might simply have consumed something mildly poisonous or it may have wind, but it might have consumed something like a nail by accident too. If a horse keeps looking at its flanks or even nipping at them, there may be a problem as well.

Your horse might have a blockage or constipation if you see him having difficulty doing his business. This may pass or it may take a laxative to ease him or it could be something worse.

We have all seen horses rolling in rapture in a field, but if your horse is rolling in another fashion – you think it is not the same, that might also be an indication that he has a problem. So would excessive sweating after little or no exercise.

An experienced horse person will have seen all this before and have an notion what to do, but it is very distressing for the greenhorn.
